Bridal FAQ

We offer a large selection of apparel for brides, bridesmaids, flower girls, wedding guests and formal wear for the gentlemen. We also offer alterations services on any apparel purchased in the store.
We would allow at least six to eight months as a functional timetable to order your gown and avoid the extra fees and potentially stressful situations before your wedding day. Some designers offer expedited shipping for an additional fee. As for bridesmaids, these gowns take at least four months to arrive once ordered. Again, expedited services are usually available with an additional fee. The timetable for bridesmaids is more abbreviated. Most manufacturers have a 10 to 12 week lead time. Expedited services are usually available to reduce the manufacturing cycle by 4 to 6 weeks at an average cost of $40 per dress. Many bridesmaids live out of town and must have their dress sent to them, then they must find a competent alteration source in their hometown. To avoid last minute problems, we suggest that bridesmaid dresses be ordered five months before the wedding.
Appointments are required to try on bridal gowns. This allows us to offer the bride personalized service and attention. Bridesmaids do not need an appointment for parties of two or fewer during the week. Bridesmaids are required to have an appointment on Saturdays, regardless of party size. Those shopping for mother’s dresses or special occasion wear do not need an appointment. If you are coming to be measured for a tuxedo or suit rental, you do not need an appointment unless you have more than two gentleman coming to be measured. If you are coming to pick out your suit/tux rental, then an appointment is suggested so that we can make sure someone is available to help you and answer questions
This is the million-dollar question. There is no standardized size chart in the bridal industry. Furthermore, there is no relationship between ready-to-wear and bridal sizing. To determine ones size, measurements of the bust, waist and hips are taken before consulting the size chart of the manufacturer. It is our practice to order the largest size of the three measurements taken. A gown can always be slimmed but it cannot always be let out due to limited seam allowances or delicate fabrics. Please note that there is an extra length charge for bridesmaids 5′ 8″ or over and an additional charge for bridesmaids wearing sizes 18 or over.
We require a 50% deposit on bridal and special occasion orders and a 70% deposit on all bridesmaid and flower girl orders. We require full payment on all accessory purchases. The order is placed with the manufacturer before the close of business that day. Special order balances are not required to be paid until the day of the first fitting or until the merchandise leaves the store- whichever comes first. In addition to personal checks, we also accept Visa, MasterCard or Discover credit cards.
We do offer in house alterations on garments purchased a Monica’s. Our team of seamstresses has over 60 years of experience and are very familiar with our designers. Alteration charges are not included in the price of the dress and vary based on the amount of work necessary. Alteration appointments must be scheduled in advance.

Formal Wear FAQ

We have over eighty styles available from our two vendors. This includes seven suit styles. In recent years, suits have become very important as style options for less formal settings.
Over fifty percent of our groomsmen are from outside the area. We have a on line measurement form that can be used to ascertain measurements. The form can be downloaded, taken to a formal wear shop, filled in on line and submitted directly to our email. If we have a question or concern about the accuracy of the measurements, we will contact the groomsman individually.
No appointments are required. The measuring process should take no more than five minutes.
All formal wear will be available by 3pm on the Thursday before the wedding. It is important that each of the groomsmen come into the store to try on the tuxedo either Thursday afternoon or Friday by 3pm to make certain that the fit is correct.
Since we are not open on Sunday, the tuxedos are due back by 6pm on the Monday following the wedding.
We can raise or lower the sleeves of a jacket or the hem of a trouser. There is no charge for these alterations. No other modifications of the tuxedo are possible. If either the jacket, pants or shirt are decidedly too big or small, we have an excellent chance for an exchange to the proper size. To facilitate the exchange procedure , we ask that all tuxedos be tried on by Friday at 3pm
While many of these stores are well known through consumer advertising, they often have a lack of experience measuring men due to their high turnover of employees. At Monica’s we have over fifty collective years of formal wear measuring experience. For the bride who purchased her gown and/or bridesmaid dresses from us, we have the insight to suggest several ways the wedding colors can be incorporated into the formal wear choices. In these instances, the same bridal consultant will work with the groom on his choices for a more coordinated look.
