-How did he propose?
He proposed on top of the Edney building downtown! He arranged for his brother (who’s a photographer) to ask us to model in a couple’s shoot for him. I thought we were just helping his brother build his portfolio. Halfway through the shoot, I turned around and he was down on one knee!
-Tell us about your venue and why you chose it:
We got married at First Presbyterian Church of Chattanooga. My dad was the Senior Pastor there for 9 years, so it’s a special place for me. Our reception was at the Camp House because we both love coffee. We met working at a coffee shop, so the Camp House seemed to be the perfect atmosphere for us.
-What was your favorite and least favorite part of the wedding planning process?
My favorite part about wedding planning was including all my best friends, sisters, and special people in the day. Giving them different rolls in the ceremony and planning process was special. It meant a lot to me. My least favorite part was keeping track of all the many, many, many details. Getting a month-of wedding coordinator was the best decision ever.
-Any advice for other brides planning their big day?
Yes, details matter! It’s your special day and is (most likely) something you’ll only get to plan once. However, at the end of the day, you are going to look beautiful in whatever dress you wear. Your flowers will look gorgeous even if they’re different from what you expected. No one is as critical of the details as you are, and in the end, the details aren’t the most important part. Your marriage is. So make it fun and personal, but know that there isn’t one specific, perfect way that each thing needs to be.
-What was your favorite part about your wedding day?
My favorite part of my wedding day was the few minutes I had with my husband right before we entered the reception. We had just finished our couple portraits and had a few minutes outside the reception venue, where we paused to chug cocktails and take a deep breath after the craziness of the morning. We were married. Taking a second of stillness in the middle of everything to realize that with him was very special. The rest of the night was just a huge party with all our friends and family.
