We know that there’s so much to plan in the lead up to your big day. You’ve no doubt got the dress lined up (with us, of course! ;) ), chosen your ideal venue and organized the guest list, but what about your pre-wedding beauty regimen? Now’s the time to start thinking about that. The more informed and better prepared you are the less stressful it’s going to be leading up to the ceremony, and that includes how you look after your skin and hair. With that in mind we’re going to show you how to plan a wedding beauty regime to get you ready for the big day.

Happy hair

Having beautiful wedding hair isn’t just about choosing a style (although we will come on to that!) it’s about looking after your locks and making sure they’re in great condition. There are a number of do’s and don’ts to take into consideration. Here are a few to bear in mind:

Don’t:

Overuse shampoo: you run the risk of drying out your hair, so stick to two to three times a week max.

Overuse styling tools and products: excessive heat from your tongs or straighteners can do damage if constantly used, as can the impact of daily mousses, hairsprays etc. Now’s the time to embrace your natural look and leave the big styling for the big day.

Do:

Use conditioner every time you wash: that’ll keep your hair moist and luscious.

Use a deep conditioning treatment once a week: if you want to know how to get shiny hair quickly, treating your locks with essential oil-rich products is definitely one of the best ways. Look for conditioners containing coconut, avocado and peppermint oils, amongst others.

Talk to your stylist regularly: that includes taking their advice about what styles will work and suit you best. Also, they’ll be able to give you plenty of additional tips for your specific hair type, including how to get shiny hair.

Glowing skin

The key to glowing wedding skin is starting, and sticking to, an easy-to-follow skin care routine as far in advance of your ceremony as possible. It all begins with finding out what your specific skin type is and then you can plan accordingly. It’s fairly easy to figure out your skin type and the following guide should help:

  • Oily: if your skin feels greasy to touch and has a shiny look it’s likely oily.
  • Dry: skin that feels tight and appears flaky can be considered dry.
  • Combination: skin that feels greasy in the T-zone (around the nose and above the eyebrows) but dry in the cheek area is commonly known as combination.
  • Normal: skin that feels neither overly dry or greasy.

Once you know your type of skin you can get to work. Cleanse, tone and moisturize in the morning and last thing at night. Regular but gentle exfoliation is also going to help, and drinking plenty of water is going to keep your skin hydrated. If there’s anything you’re not sure of, or you have specific issues in play, a dermatologist or beauty expert will be able to help.

Using products specifically designed for your skin type, knowing how to get shiny hair and looking after your locks with conditioning treatments are all going to help you look your beautiful best on the big day. Start putting your plan into action and you’ll love the results!
